University of Chicago — Joe and Rika Mansueto Library

Perhaps the most striking aspect of Mansueto Library is the giant glass dome that encloses the building's main study space. Underground, the library employs a high-tech storage system, using a robotic crane to quickly retrieve any requested material.

The top four states, ranked by their numbers of Star Libraries, are New York, 31; Ohio, 25; Illinois, 22; and California, 13. There is a tie for fifth place between Kansas and Massachusetts, 12 each. The top ten Star Library states are rounded out by Nebraska and Texas, 11 each; Alabama, ten; and Colorado, eight.

The cost is $75 for three months or $125 for one year. Fee cards are non-refundable. With the purchase, family members residing at the same address would also qualify for cards. If the missing part is not returned within 30 days, the account will be charged for the cost of the item unless the item is a CD or DVD.

Materials may be returned to any Orange County Library System location, regardless from which OCLS location they were checked out. You may request a check-in receipt at any location when you return items during open hours at the service desk or at the Drive-Up Window.

America holds the world record for the largest fine for an overdue library book. In November 2003, the Kewanee Public Library in Illinois charged Emily Canellos-Simms $345.14, according to Guinness World Records.

Non-circulating material (such as periodicals and reference materials), for which special charge loans may be granted and are fined at a rate of $1.20 per hour when overdue. Recalled material that is not returned by the recall due date is subject to a $25 fine.

The Santa Ana Public Library does not charge any overdue fines or rental fees.

The Library is now closed as we relocate to the new facility located at 4852 Lakeview Ave. During the closure, hold requests have been suspended. Items previously placed on hold will be available for pick-up once the new library opens. Due dates have been extended and no fines are being incurred.
